About a few weeks back, I FINALLY caved; my sister had been pushing me to watch the star studded K-drama Crash Landing on You on Netflix. CLOY encapsulates the love story of a South Korean diva and a North Korean army officer and is set amidst politically tensed conditions. After a while, the language barrier is no longer a limitation as the story grips you, one falls in love with the two main protagonists – Yoon Se-Ri and Ri Jeong-Hyeok and what is absolutely unmissable are the beautiful (and of course very familiar) Swiss-scapes. Yes! A lot scenes from the super-hit K drama, Crash Landing on You were shot right here in Switzerland; from the Alps in the Jungfrau region to the historic Zurich old town; the show captured a bunch of Swiss hidden gems.
While my love for Crash Landing on You was growing with each episode, I was contacted by Magic Switzerland – a Swiss travel and reservation website, and I was offered to experience their specially designed travel package for CLOY fans which basically tours you through the Crash Landing on You filming locations in Switzerland. I was absolutely thrilled to discover the beauty of Switzerland the “CLOY way” by following the footsteps of the two main characters with Magic Switzerland. So without further ado – I spill all the deets of my power packed weekend getaway in this article.
Day 1: On our way to explore the CLOY filming locations in Switzerland
From Basel SBB to Interlaken Ost & Sigriswil

Despite the day being so hectic (we completed our first body positivity webinar on the same morning), I boarded the train to Interlaken to kick start this wonderful getaway! Needless to say, the train journey of 2 hours was filled with beautiful views and riding the train after so many months brought back a gazillion memories. I traveled with one of my friends for the trip and we checked into the Carlton Europe Vintage Adults Hotel which was actually just a stone throw away from the station. After reaching the hotel we were greeted by the staff, given a small tour of the hotel and we deposited our luggage inside the room before embarking on to the first destination – Sigriswil.
From Interlaken Ost you can easily reach Sigriswil via bus with 1 stop at Gunten dorf, a beautiful village situated on lake Thun. After reaching Sigriswil, we made our way to the Panaroma bridge where Ri Jung Hyuk and Yoo Seri had met by accident and where he had unknowingly saved her life the first out of the many times in the series. Jung Hyuk asks Seri to click a picture of him and his fiancé, Seo Dan just before she is about the jump off the bridge. What could have been tragic turns out to be an insanely cute scene where Seri for some reason is jealous of Seo Dan and mumbles stuff under her breath!
The Panorama bridge in Switzerland offers fascinating views of the Bernese Alps & Lake Thun. You can cross over (or go up and down) the 340 meter long suspension bridge by paying up a fee of CHF 8, has to be paid on the spot. If you’re unafraid of heights and someone who loves photography, or just a plain CLOY fan, this one is a MUST DO!

While we had hoped to walk back from Sigriswil to Gunten; we had to board the bus again as it had started to rain with thunderstorm warnings. Post an adventure-filled day (the cherry on the top being thunderstorms), we relaxed with some wine and delicious dinner at Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel and walked up to our hotel to crash and re-energize for the next day!

Day 2: Exploring the CLOY filming locations in Jungfrau Region
We knew this one was going to be a long day and I was super excited to visit the “top of Europe” finally. Long story short, after 5 years in Switzerland and somehow still not visited Jungfraujoch – this was definitely one of the Swiss Travel bucket list items that had to be ticked! Our ongoing journey was via Grindelwald, riding the iconic Eiger express and during our return we came back via Kleine Scheidegg just like Jeong-Hyeok, Seo Dan and Yoon Se-Ri travelled in Crash Landing on You in Switzerland. 🙂 Enjoy the pictures below, you cannot have enough of the most scenic region of Switzerland.
Even though, it’s summer please be sure to carry your jacket and wear sturdy shoes; as you can see in the pictures below – it’s a snow clad setting at the highest point. As you start your descent, what you need more of is sunscreen and shades 🙂
Post lunch at the pretty, car-free village of Wengen, we packed our bags and left for Zurich to explore the CLOY filming locations in Zurich. We were super pumped to experience the Old Town and Zurich Lake. Upon reaching, we checked into the beautiful 25hours Hotel Langstrasse, which was such a lively and colorful place to be at after a tiring day! While the hotel ambience and the modernity of our room cheered us up – we decided to pack up early that evening! It had been a long day – we climbed mountains (with the help of the wonderful Jungfrau Railway ;)) and had had over 6 hours of journey time throughout the day!
Day 3: Exploring the CLOY filming locations in Zurich
After a sumptuous breakfast and great coffee; we headed out of our hotel to explore Zurich, a city that I have been to several times (my office is in Zurich) but this time things were different. I saw Zurich through my CLOY glasses, and could feel various scenes – Ri Jung Hyuk piano scene in the Grossmunster, Seri and Seo Dan crossing paths in the Schweizer Heimatwerk (Uriana Street, ZH), or the opening sequence of CLOY in Switzerland where the two of them are shown crossing each other at Lindenhof.
Walking tours can be tricky if you do not have a guide with a flag in the front of the group (I know you guys imagined it) but thanks to Magic Switzerland’s detailed instructions and of course our know-how of Switzerland, there wasn’t a moment that I felt confused or lost. Before wrapping up the trip, we had a quick bite at our favorite confiserie sprĂĽngli at Paradeplatz.
Overall Impressions
- With Magic Switzerland, I highly recommend the 8-day self-guided CLOY package; which has each and every CLOY filming location in Switzerland – however, be sure to check out other packages as well one can always ask the agency to customize a trip that suits your preferences, budget, and duration.
- Some of the MUST DOs – walking over the suspension panoramic bridge in Sigriswil, travelling up to Jungfraujoch and Kleine Scheidegg, riding the new Eiger Express, and exploring the old town of Zurich by foot.
- A self-guided tour can be tricky, but a detailed itinerary can make all the difference; all through the trip I never felt lost and while having a friend as well as familiarity with a country is helpful; the agency in this case offers you support via messages, calls and emails.
- Building an itinerary isn’t an easy task – if you’re like me, you need everything – flexibility, privacy and good use of my time. In this trip, all these parameters remained on point. We could eat where we wanted to (recommendations were of course available), we could shop in peace and sip wine, and the FOMO feels were not felt!
- How can I not talk about the weather – summer/winters one should always be ready for unexpected circumstances. At the top of Europe, you do need your jacket and sturdy shoes, for unexpected thunderstorms and rains – carry an umbrella/rain jacket and in general lots of sunscreen. Make sure you’re checking the weather forecast at all times and dressing up appropriately.
