This month, we’re celebrating something truly special—our community and the meaningful connections we continue to build at My Swiss Story. And today, I’d like to share the backstory about how this journey of community building began.
The Beginning of a Meaningful Journey
It was 2022. COVID was no longer just a temporary disruption—it had become a way of life. Like many, I was working from home, all the time. My social life? Almost nonexistent. The isolation, the chronic pain, the unsettling feeling of not belonging—it all started weighing on me in a way I hadn’t experienced before.
I tried attending meetups, squeezing them into my schedule whenever I could. Big ones, small ones. But instead of feeling connected, I often left feeling even lonelier. And honestly? This wasn’t new. Every time I pushed myself to a networking event, something inside me regretted it.
If you’ve ever been an expat, you know exactly what I mean. Sometimes, forced socializing can make the loneliness feel even louder.
By then, My Swiss Story had grown into a trusted space for expats across Switzerland. And one day, a simple but powerful thought crossed my mind—What if we could bring people together over coffee, in a way that felt real? No small talk, no forced interactions, just genuine conversations.
The Birth of Coffee-with-a-Purpose
I shared the idea with a few friends, and they loved it. So, I took a leap of faith and announced the first-ever Coffee-with-a-Purpose in Basel.
💡 100 women signed up. That’s when I knew—we had something special.
Our meetups are different. No awkward silences, no cliques. Just intimate conversations with no more than 10 people at a table. Everyone gets a chance to speak (only if they want to), and every session has a thoughtful prompt to spark meaningful discussions.
